Michael, I’ve been thinking about your response to the attendee who was upset about the free speech at the free speech event. The one question I have for you is, what if someone was wearing a swastika instead of a red pin? Would you be defending their right to free expression? I’m wrestling with if it’s “free” is there really no cost?
That is a serious conundrum. How far do you take the concept, what is the threshold point? I think I personally would have yelled, screamed, and told the swastika wearing person they are a total asshole, and fuck off, everything short of violence. But if I am going to stay true to meaning of free speech, they have a right to express themselves with it. Tough call. Not sure I would gracefully thank them for coming and their contribution to the cause........
